For those of you who don't know me... (this is a bit long) :)
I'm an avid gamer girl who has been playing some form of online games since around 1993. Since 1995 though, I've also been involved in a medieval reenactment organization called the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).
I became interested in computer gaming when my father introduced me to the Magnavox Odyssey 300 game system he was given as a gift sometime in the late 70s.
As I got older though, my needs changed and I wanted a PC for school work. Since my brother had a Commodore already, my family decided to buy a Commodore 128. I did homework on this system, but the majority of my time on it I was playing video games. I eventually was given Ultima 5 as a gift and this game introduced me to the world of RPG games.
About the time I was getting ready to go to college, Ultima 7 was going to be published. When I found out that the game series wouldn't be available on the Commodore platform anymore I decided that I needed to upgrade to an IBM compatable. Plus I needed something new to do my college work on. :)
During my first college summers, I worked at a local computer store. While I was working there, the owner of the computer store introduced me to the world of local BBSs. I was hooked. I decided to setup my own BBS and thus Kerowyn's Haven BBS was born. My alias on the BBS was Kerowyn, the name of a heroine in one of Mercedies Lackey's books.
To make a long story short, I was the sysop of this BBS throughout the best years when BBSs where popular. I even meet my now husband due to this BBS. Once the Internet became mainsteam though, BBS usage went down. I did setup the BBS to be available on the Internet via Telnet for a time before I decided to close it down.
In the mid-90s, I also became involved in an organization called the Society for Create Anachronism (SCA). This group is an international medieval reinactment group. I spent a lot of my free time back then working on craft projects, learning archery, and I eventually became our Principality's Exchequer. My name in this oganization is The Honorable Lady Gweniver Kenwyn of Roseveth. Gweniver is the Cornish version of the name Gwenivere which Jennifer originated from. The rest of the name I came up with based of my real family history.
I was granted the title 'Honorable Lady' in the organization when I was given a Grant of Arms for service to the Middle Kingdom. I received my second Grant of Arms for my skill and teaching of costuming and lacemaking.
Around the beginning of 2002, I decided that I wanted to try a new MMO that just came out. The game was called Dark Age of Camelot. This game drew my in due to my interest in fantasy RPG games, but it also had influence from of Celtic, Norse, and English mythology which I had learned through out my time in the SCA. I decided to play a caster class and used the same name that I had in the SCA...Gweniver.
On one of my first days in the game I was invited into a guild called The Huntsmen on the Iseult server. I eventually became co-GM of the guild. The rest is history though of note a couple years ago I became the Eldritch Class Team Lead. As a Team Lead, I was given the opportunity to interact with the game developers regularly to help make the game better. I also work with the player base to gather feedback about the class I represent and provide this feedback to Mythic.
Throughout the years, I've tried almost every MMO that has been released (starting with the Ultima Online beta) but DAOC kept most of my interest until Warhammer Online was published. When my husband started playing World of Warcraft in 2005 though, (he used to play Everquest), I decided to give that game a try and continued to play that game off and on until 2008.
As mentioned above I've been recognized for my costuming in the SCA (I mainly make Elizabethan garb), but I've also won three Best Female DAOC costume competitions at three different DAOC Roundtable player gatherings.
Over the past year though, I decided that playing MMOs was taking up too much time in my live and I've been spending more time again on my other favorite pastimes again...mainly research into costuming for the Elizabethan period.
When I'm not doing one of my hobbies (or sleeping), I'm usually working at Thomson-West as a Senior Software Engineer working on Internet software development.
